The enjoyable long weekend came and went. And just like many of us, you may have gone overboard with the junk food binge, celebrating the Independence Day festivities. Once in a while, this is completely fine and you most certainly don’t have to feel guilty. Unfortunately, the post-holiday belly bloat or discomfort doesn’t feel too pleasant. To get your digestive system on track and replenish your body with nutrients, here are a few quick bites you can have.
Lemon water
Drinking lemon water through the day will help detoxify your body. Due to the acidic elements of lemon, a few drops of it will flush out toxins, and cleanse organs such as the liver, gall bladder, and the respiratory tissues.
Oatmeal
If you’ve had an overdose of sugar over the weekend, oatmeal is your best bet for comfort food. Packed with fibre and nutrients like magnesium, phosphorous, and zinc, oatmeal stabilises the glucose and cholesterol levels in the body. It is also an energy-boosting food that will keep you feeling full yet comfortable through the day.
Turmeric
Known to aid in a variety of ailments from arthritis to heartburn and stomach pain, turmeric is a spice that does wonders to detoxify the body. It especially has beneficial effects on the liver, and re-stimulates the immunity system of the body.
Bananas
To restore all the nutrients in your body after dehydration, bananas are a great choice. Packed with potassium, bananas help fight effects of indigestion, such as bloating.
Leafy greens
Certain leafy greens consist of vitamins to help convert carbs into glucose, and therefore, produce energy for the body. Fibre-rich greens such as spinach ease up the digestive tract, and regulate fluids in your body. So say goodbye to those stomach cramps!
