Why you NEED to avoid THESE foods before getting on your flight

STOP your stomach upset in its tracks before you step foot on board.

What you put in your mouth makes a big difference to how well you fly

There’s a reason you always feel bloated after a long-haul flight.

The high altitude is not the most ideal setting the human body was designed for.

Gas expands at thousands of feet above the ground and that includes the stuff in your intestines.

So you’re not the only one who suffers from flatulence and sluggishness when you get off the plane, but there is something you can do about it.

Stay away from legumes like baked beans if you want to beat the bloat on your flight

What you eat and drink before and during your flight can make a huge difference to how you feel.

It’s important to avoid foods that cause a build up of gas in your body, which include legumes, cabbage, broccoli and even chewing gum.

Whilst airports are filled with fast food choices, eating deep fried or fatty foods before you board can wreak havoc on your digestion.

They cause heartburn and indigestion and will only make your plane ride uncomfortable.

Once you’re on the plane, the best meal option is the vegetarian one.

Avoid carbonated drinks which produce gas and while you’re at it, ditch the caffeine too.

It’s best to stick to water whilst on your flight because the cabin pressure zaps you of hydration.

A good rule of thumb is to drink at least 250ml of water for each hour that you’re in the air to ensure your skin is well hydrated.

As tempting as it is, alcohol will only dry you out and weaken your immune system on the plane

It’s no surprise then that alcohol - as tempting as it is - is not a good idea on the plane.

Enjoy a drink at the airport but make the next one a cocktail on your cabana when you arrive at your holiday destination

Not only does alcohol dehydrate you on a flight, it also lowers your resistance to germs so you’re much more likely to get a cold or flu.

If you need an on-board distraction, take some herbal tea bags along for the ride.

Peppermint is great for digestion and chamomile will calm you down during those sketchy patches of turbulence.
